The State Ministry for Peace, due to the spread of Coronavirus COVID-19, expresses its concern regarding the health condition of detainees held by the Taliban.

It is noteworthy that neutral international institutions regularly visit the prisons of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and the government has also taken necessary precautionary measures for the prisoners. We, therefore, urge the Taliban to look after the health of the prisoners they are withholding and provide access and permission for site visits and monitoring of prisoners to neutral international bodies to clarify their health and conditions of care and protection against COVID-19.
