Fawzia Koofi, Member of the Negotiation Team of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, participated in a meeting titled “The Position of Afghan Women in the Peace Negotiations” held by the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in the Netherlands.
Praising the active and conscious presence of women and their high political insight, Ms. Koofi said that the achievements of the last 20 years are not symbolic; rather, the people and especially the women of Afghanistan, believed in it.
She said that international experience has shown that peace processes are complex and time-consuming, adding that the Afghan people are tired of the current violence and bloodshed in the country and expect the negotiation process to be concluded soon.
Speaking about the recent efforts and actions in the region and the world about Afghanistan’s peace process, Ms. Koofi said that the negotiation team is working to move the peace negotiations forward in a rational manner as the international efforts are also expected to strengthen the current process and support us to achieve lasting and stable peace in Afghanistan.
Stating that the issue of women’s rights will be one of the most comprehensive issues on the agenda discussed in the negotiations, she said that we would spare no effort to involve more women in this process.
She added that the peace negotiations process should be Afghan-led and Afghan-owned, and called the role of the United Nations during the negotiation process as well as in the post-peace Afghanistan important and valuable.
