Members of the Negotiating Team of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Met with the US Secretary of State
Members of the negotiating team of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan met today with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad in Doha.
During the meeting, Sayed Sadat Mansoor Naderi, the State Minister for Peace and member of the negotiating team of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, expressed his gratitude for the continued US support to Afghanistan. He further called for continuity of the cooperation between the two countries after achieving peace agreements.
Members of the negotiating team highlighted that the people of Afghanistan want to preserve the achievements of the last two decades in their country.
They stated that Afghans did not accept the increase in violence after the release of five thousands prisoners as they consider it in violation of the Doha Agreement. They added that the Afghan people expect a permanent ceasefire in the country.
Referring to US support for the Afghan peace process, Mike Pompeo said that enduring peace in Afghanistan is a common goal for both countries.
Members of the negotiating team of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan further stated that the current war in Afghanistan is considered illegal by the Islamic world and also its continuation is not acceptable for the international community.
The US Secretary of State added that US support for enduring peace in Afghanistan will continue and long-term commitments to the Afghan people will remain in place.
