Youth Engagement in the Peace Process Increases the Legitimacy and Sustainability of the Process
Dr. Alema, Deputy Minister for Human Rights and Civil Society Organizations of the State Ministry for Peace, speaking at the opening ceremony of the Kabul Model UN 2020, stated that youth engagement in all stages of the peace process is much important which increases the legitimacy and sustainability of the process.
Dr. Alema stressed that the Afghan government's approach is youth-oriented, and said that a meaningful role of the youth in conflict resolution, peace-building and launching social peace mechanisms is an Inseparable component of the peace process and sustainable development.
The Deputy Minister for Human Rights and Civil Society Organizations of the State Ministry for Peace, stating that the youth suffer the most from conflicts and wars, said that the Ministry is working to involve them in all the three stages of peacemaking, peacekeeping and peacebuilding.
She further said that Afghanistan has a largest percentage of youth population, and they can play an active role in mitigating the pain of victims, launching peace dialogue programs and organizing gatherings to support the peace process.
Dr. Alema also stated that the mission and responsibility of the State Ministry for Peace is not limited to the peace negotiations, but it’s role would be more important in the long run when implementing the peace agreement and strengthening the peace infrastructures.
