A Two-Day Awareness-Raising Workshop on the Elimination of Violence against Women (EVAW) Law and the Anti-Harassment of Women and Children Law
A two-day awareness-raising workshop on the “Elimination of Violence against Women (EVAW) Law” and the “Anti-Harassment of Women and Children Law” was inaugurated in the presence of Dr. Alema, Deputy Minister for Human Rights and Civil Society of the State Ministry for Peace (SMP) and with the participation of the ministry’s staff.
Dr. Alema, Deputy Minister for Human Rights and Civil Society of the SMP, said at the beginning of the meeting, referring to the Afghan women’s movements, that women’s struggles have been going on for many years; however, there is still violence of all kinds against women.
Dr. Alema added that the purpose of holding this two-day workshop is to raise awareness about the law on the Elimination of Violence against Women (EVAW) and the law on the Prevention and Prohibition of Harassment of Women and Children. She stressed that everyone should be aware of the law and cooperate in its implementation.
Referring to women’s important role in political and social activities, Dr. Alema also called the presence of women in the peace process vitally important and expressed hope that women could be more involved in this process.
Salahuddin Faizi and Shukria Yasini, teachers at the Ministry of Women’s Affairs, then provided information on violence, types of violence and the basis of the Law on the Elimination of Violence against Women (EVAW). The meeting participants also shared their views and questions regarding these laws.
