Several tribal elders in their meeting with Abdul Salam Rahimi, the Special Representative of the President and the Minister of State for Peace, backed the ongoing efforts for the peace process.

At the meeting held this afternoon, tribal elders emphasized that for advancing the peace negotiations, they would not hesitate to provide any kind of assistance and facilitate this process.

Meanwhile, Abdul Salam Rahimi termed the role of tribal elders in the peace process as crucial, adding that brining peace was not just the sole duty of the government or an institution but it needed public support and efforts.

He emphasized that the participation of people in this process would lead to positive results.

Rahimi said that the people's understanding of the last ceasefire was that “There is no inherent and personal hostility but there is just a little gap created between them.”

Mr. Rahimi stressed that the government needed public backing and that peace would only come about when Afghans settled issues themselves.
