Consultative Meeting of Female Members of the Negotiating Team with Women's Rights Activists

Ms. Fawzia Koofi, Ms. Habiba Sarabi and Ms. Sharifa Zurmati Wardak, members of the negotiating team of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, met with a number of women rights activists through an online meeting held at the State Ministry for Peace.

At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Alema, Deputy Minister of Human Rights and Civil Society of the State Ministry for Peace, emphasized the importance of such consultative meetings of the negotiating team with various segments of the society and said that women's cohesion is important for their involvement in the negotiation process.

Ms. Fawzia Koofi, member of the negotiating team, shed light on the negotiating team's plans during their stay in Kabul and stressed that the team members will meet with various segments of the society during this period to receive their opinions and thoughts, and after consultations with these segments will prepare for the second round of the negotiations.

She stressed the significance of the role and presence of women in this process, and said that women's voices would legitimize the peace negotiations.

Ms. Habiba Sarabi, member of the negotiating team, also informed the meeting with the activities and functions of the team members over the past three months as well as the negotiations’ procedure.

Ms. Sarabi further stressed the significance of mobilizing public opinion for peace and called for the support of women and other segments of society in the Afghanistan peace negotiations.

Ms. Sharifa Zurmati Wardak, member of the negotiating team, also called for the mobilization of women across the country to support the peace process, stressing that creating a unified voice of women and cohesion among the Afghan people and the negotiating team will make the process successful.

After that, the participants of the meeting shared their views and comments with the negotiating team members.

They stressed the need for ceasefire and said that a comprehensive ceasefire should be a priority on the agenda.
