Meeting of the Acting Minister of the State Ministry for Peace with the Executive Director of the European Institute of Peace

Mr. Abdullah Khenjani, Acting Minister of the State Ministry for Peace and Deputy Minister of Coordination, Policy and Strategy of the SMP, met with Michael Keating, Executive Director of the European Institute of Peace (EIP), and his accompanying delegation, including Patrick de Vries, Senior Advisor to the Institute.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed cooperations between the two institutions in the Afghanistan peace process and exchanged views on opportunities to expand these cooperations.

The Acting Minister of the State Ministry for Peace spoke about the structures involved in the Afghanistan peace process and said about the role of the State Ministry for Peace that the ministry provides technical and substantive support to the negotiation team of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, besides the role of Secretariat of the High Council for National Reconciliation (HCNR) and the negotiation team.

He added that the State Ministry for Peace has facilitated the engagement of various segments in the peace process and conveys the voice of the people to the negotiation table. He went on to say that the ministry has a pivotal role in peacebuilding and peacekeeping in Afghanistan.

Speaking about the internal and regional factors influencing the peace process in Afghanistan, Mr. Khenjani said that considering the key role of the Ministry, the development of cooperation with international institutions that have good capacities in the field of peace is one of the priorities of the State Ministry for Peace.

Michael Keating, Executive Director of the European Institute of Peace (EIP), said during the meeting that the institute emphasizes the need to expand its technical support at various levels with the State Ministry for Peace.

Expressing the commitment of the European Institute of Peace (EIP) to expand the cooperation, he said that the peace process requires global consultation, knowledge and experience, and that the institute will cooperate in the necessary trainings.
