Deputy Minister for Human Rights and Civil Society of the SMP Meets UNAMA Deputy Head of Mission
Dr. Alema, Deputy Minister for Human Rights and Civil Society of the State Ministry for Peace met with Mette Knudsen, Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Afghanistan and her accompanying delegation.
In this meeting, they discussed the peace process and preparations for the upcoming Istanbul Conference.
Presenting information about the State Ministry for Peace and its activities, Dr. Alema said that since its establishment, the ministry had gathered the views and suggestions of different strata of the society on the peace process by holding meetings with them.
She mentioned establishing Women’s United Voice Advisory Group on Peace Policy Making, establishing the Political Parties Contact Committee for Peace, establishing the Advisory and Coordination Board of Civil Society Organizations, and other groups set up to work for peace and participation of different segments of the society in the peace process.
Referring to the upcoming Istanbul Conference, Dr. Alema said that the presence of women and all strata of the society in this conference would be strictly considered.
She emphasized UNAMA’s support and said that UNAMA could play an important role in engaging all segments of the society in the peace process, especially women’s involvement in this process.
Mette Knudsen, Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Afghanistan in UNAMA, said that UNAMA supports the position of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in this conference.
She stressed that this conference should be inclusive and that all segments of the society should participate in this conference as well as in the peace process.
