Consultative meeting of the leadership of the State Ministry for Peace and the head of the negotiating team with the administrative board of the Wolesi Jirga commissions
Abdul Salam Rahimy, Special Representative of the President and the State Minister for Peace, and Masoom Stanekzai, head of the Negotiating Team of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, met with members of the administrative board of the Wolesi Jirga commissions.
In this meeting, the State Minister for Peace, in the beginning, briefed the participants on the progress of the peace process and said that the National Assembly is one of the main pillars of the country and plays an important role in the success of the peace process and the progress of negotiations.
Noting that the peace process has begun with the National Assembly, he said that any agreement reached during the peace negotiations would not be viable without a vote of confidence by the National Assembly.
The State Minister for Peace also said that representatives of the National Assembly would be present at the High Council for National Reconciliation, which would play a key role in determining the basic lines of the peace negotiations, and would play a role in monitoring the negotiation process.
Mr. Rahimy also said that the government is working to strengthen and consolidate national, regional and international consensus, and that this consensus will be strengthened every day.
Regarding the illegitimacy of the current war in the country, he said that fatwas have been issued by international centers and authorities denying the legitimacy of the war.
Masoom Stanekzai, head of the negotiating team, provided information on the activities of the negotiating team.
He called the role of parliament important in the peace process and said that members of parliament, as representatives of the people, play an important role in strengthening and enduring the peace process in the right direction.
The administrative board of the Wolesi Jirga commissions welcomed this consultative meeting and shared their suggestions, views and questions. They stressed that the people want a lasting peace that will put an end to the violence and all the components of a lasting peace must be considered.
They also said that peace is not possible without regional integration. Therefore, the government should pay more attention to this issue in its foreign policy.
The MPs called for the establishment of a systematic relationship between the State Ministry for Peace and the parliamentarians for the effectiveness of the consultation process.
They emphasized on the participation of all sections of the society in the High Council for National Reconciliation, and said that the State Ministry for Peace should set up committees to meet with people in remote villages and areas and gather their views on the peace process.
The release of prisoners, the establishment of coordination and coherence between peace-related structures, the reduction of violence, the protection of the fundamental rights and values of the people, the preservation of the constitution, and the presence and participation of women in all spheres were some of the topics discussed.
In the end, the State Minister for Peace and the head of the negotiating team answered the questions.
This meeting was held following the consultative meetings on the peace process by the Directorate of Coordination of the National Assembly of the State Ministry for Peace.
