The 17th Anniversary of the Adoption of the Country’s Constitution Was Commemorated
The 17th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of Afghanistan was commemorated at the State Ministry for Peace (SMP) with the presence of Mr. Abdullah Khenjani, Deputy Minister of Coordination, Policy and Strategy and the Acting Minister of the SMP, Ghulam Yahya Abbasi, Deputy Minister of Support and Finance, and senior advisers and directors of the ministry, Mohammad Farooq Fakher, representative of the Independent Commission for Overseeing the Implementation of the Constitution (ICOIC), and employees of the State Ministry for Peace.
At the beginning of the meeting, Gul Agha Ahmadi, Head of Peace Research and Studies of the Ministry, presented a presentation on the history and framework of the Constitution. Mr. Ahmadi said that the Constitution is a national honor for all Afghans and every Afghan has the responsibility to implement it in their both personal and formal matters.
After that, Mr. Zia Danesh, Director of Public Awareness of the SMP, presented a presentation on "Constitution, Pluralism and Sustainable Peace", saying that pluralism and the acceptance of diversity are the important features of the constitution, which has an important role in achieving sustainable peace and ensuring national sovereignty. He referred to some articles in the constitution that reflect religious, ethnic, cultural and political pluralism.
Mr. Danesh also called the constitution one of the most important achievements of the Afghan people in the last two decades and said that national and international values are incorporated in the constitution.
Mr. Mohammad Farooq Fakher, a representative of the Independent Commission for Overseeing the Implementation of the Constitution (ICOIC), called national unity, peaceful transmission of power, freedom of expression and the media as some values of the constitution and stressed that maintaining the values of the constitution and implementing it is a national duty of every Afghan.
He added that the State Ministry for Peace has a grave responsibility to defend the values of the constitution in the peace process and to preserve it during the negotiations.
At the end of the meeting, Mr. Abdullah Khenjani, Acting Minister of the State Ministry for Peace and Deputy Minister for Coordination, Policy and Strategy, said that the constitution protects the rights and freedoms of all citizens and therefore needs to be defended as a safeguard for the interests and freedoms of the citizens.
Mr. Khenjani emphasized that the significance of the constitution and its implementation during the ongoing political developments has increased and this is the constitution in which the rights and freedoms of the citizens have been promoted.
He called the preservation of the values of the constitution the responsibility of all citizens of the country, especially the young generation, and said that the constitution is soulless in itself and what gives it spirit is its implementation and preservation by the citizens.
The event was held on the occasion of the Constitution Celebration Week and in order to commemorate the 17th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution and to raise awareness about it for the SMP’s staff.
